The various information sheets
available are summarised below.
Please click on the links on the left to access the
complete information sheet.
1. Knee replacement: Joint surfaces worn
out by arthritis are replaced by an artificial knee joint.
2. Unicompartmental knee replacement: Only one compartment of the knee is worn
out by arthritis and is replaced by a partial or 'half' knee repalcement.
3. Knee arthroscopy: 'Keyhole' surgery is used to diagnose and cure
cartilage, meniscus and ligament problems. It is usually performed as day stay surgery.
4. Anterior cruciate ligament (ACL): The ACL is commonly torn in a twisting injury
during sport and often leads to the knee being unstable. The ACL may be reconstructed to restore stability
to a knee that gives way.
Further information sheets are being prepared.
